Anika Noni Rose was born in Bloomfield, Connecticut on September 6. She majored in theater at Florida A&M University. She received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the American Conservatory Theaterís (ACT) acting training program in 1998.

Anika's stage work includes "Insurrection: Holding History," "Tartuffe" and "The Threepenny Opera" at ACT and "Valley Song" and Kushnerís "Hydriotaphia, or the Death of Dr. Browne" in Berkeley Repertory Theatre productions. She won an Obie Award for the off-Broadway "Eliís Coming," and joined the Broadway "Footloose" company for four months. In 2004 Anika won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a musical for her performance in "Caroline, or Change."

Anika has guest starred in "100 Centre Street" and "Third Watch." Her film credits include "From Justin To Kelly," "Temptation" and "Dreamgirls."
