Carol Speed was born in Bakersfield, California on March 14, 1945.

She enrolled in San Jose City College and later San Jose State University. She started teaching drama at San Jose City College. During the time she attended San Jose State, she co-hosted a talk radio show called "Face The Truth." She eventually left to attend The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. She was the first black student to ever receive a scholarship.

Carol’s feature film and telefilm credits include “The Big Bird Cage,” “God Bless the Children,” “The New Centurions,” “The Girls of Huntington House,” “The Mack,” “Black Samson” and “Abby.”

Carol has guest starred in “The Courtship of Eddie’s Father,” “The Paul Lynde Show,” “Sanford & Son” and she had a recurring role in the daytime drama "Days Of Our Lives."
