Chandra Wilson was born in Houston, Texas on August 27, 1969. Her acting career began at the age of five with Theatre Under the Stars. Chandra attended Houston’s High School for the Performing & Visual Arts and she would eventually graduate from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA.

Chandra’s stage work includes “The Good Times are Killing Me” at the Second Stage and Minetta Lane Theatres for which she won a Theatre World Award for Outstanding Debut Performance, “The Miracle Worker” at Charlotte Repertory Theatre, “Paper Moon: the Musical” at the Papermill Playhouse, “The Family of Mann” by Theresa Rebeck at the Second Stage Theatre, “Believing” for the Young Playwright's Festival at Playwrights Horizons, “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Falmouth Playhouse, the Broadway revival of “On the Town” directed by George C. Wolfe and Broadway’s "Caroline, or Change." For her role in “Caroline, or Change” the New York Times named her one of Eight to Watch, Onstage and Behind the Scenes.

Chandra’s film credits include “Philadelphia,” “Strangers With Candy” and “Lone Star.”

Chandra has guest starred in “The Cosby Show,” “Cosby,” “100 Centre Street,” “Third Watch” and “Law & Order.” She was a regular in the ABC series “Bob Patterson” and she currently portrays Dr. Miranda Bailey in the hit ABC series “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Chandra has 2 daughters and she recently gave birth to a son Michael.
