Golden Brooks was born in San Francisco on December 1, 1970. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology with an emphasis on media representation of minorities from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as a Master's degree from Sarah Lawrence College.

Golden has used her extensive training from Berkeley, where she also minored in theater, to win roles in numerous feature films including "Timecode," "Hell's Kitchen" and "The Imposter."

Goldenís theater credits include University of California, Berkeley productions of Ntozake Shange's "For Colored Girls," Chekov's "The Brute," as well as Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."

Golden has guest starred in such tv shows as "Promised Land," "The Parkers," "Moesha," "Haunted," "Eve," "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "Star Trek: Enterpise." She was a regular in the Showtime series "Lincís" and she currently stars as Maya in the UPN series "Girlfriends."
