Jennifer Beals was born on December 19, 1963 in Chicago, IL. Her father, who passed away when she was 10, was African American; her mom is Caucasian.

Jennifer made her acting debut in the 1980 film "My Bodyguard" but it was the hit movie "Flashdance" in 1983 that gave her worldwide recognition. She was a freshman at Yale University when she filmed the movie. Unfortunately Jennifer's sudden superstardom didn't last long due to reports that stand-ins performed the dance numbers in "Flashdance."

Jennifer graduated from Yale and continued her film career. She's appeared in the movies "The Bride," "Vampire's Kiss," "Mrs. Parker & The Vicious Circle," "Devil in the Blue Dress" and numerous independent films. Her telefilm credits include "A House Divided" and "Anne Rice's The Feast of All Saints" and she starred in the short lived tv series "2000 Malibu Road" in 1992.

Jennifer is currently starring in the Showtime series "The L Word."

Jennifer has been married twice: To director Alexandre Rockwell from 1986 to 1996 and she's currently married to Canadian film technician Ken Dixon. She is also a stepmom to his two children. Jennifer gave birth to a baby girl in October 2005.
