'Malibooty' Video Swims Urban Waters
By Brett Sporich
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The urban video genre continues to sell despite some claims that the market has been exhausted, and now "Baywatch's" Traci Bingham has teamed with comedian Brian Hooks to star in "Malibooty," a beach comedy with an urban edge.
The film is slated to hit retail and rental shelves Aug. 26 on VHS and DVD via Xenon Pictures.
Hooks plays Donzelli Waters, who loses his job as a nurse's aide and then must give his browbeating sister and an overzealous Army recruiter the slip if he's going to realize his dreams of hip-hop superstardom. Waters rallies his boys and hits the road to the Boogie Beach Bash in Malibu.
"Urban comedies continue to deliver viewers, and 'Malibooty' is the perfect end-of-the summer rental," Xenon Pictures founder, president and CEO Leigh Savidge said.

'Port Charles' Sails into Sunset
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Citing financial concerns, ABC has cancelled the soap opera "Port Charles."
The daytime drama, which debuted in 1997 as a spinoff of "General Hospital," will run through Friday, Oct. 3. Brian Frons, president of ABC Daytime, says that making a half-hour show for daytime just didn't work financially.
"This was an extremely difficult decision," Frons says. "We were very pleased with the creative execution of the show, but the 30-minute format in this time period posed significant financial challenges, which ultimately led to this decision."
Although it started off as a fairly straightforward story of interns and young doctors, "Port Charles" more recently delved into several supernatural story lines involving vampires, time travel and angels. The series earned its first Daytime Emmy nomination for best drama this year.
Frons says ABC will try to find a place for cast and crew members on some of the network's other soaps.
