Lynne Thigpen was born in Joliet, Illinois on December 22, 1948. She grew up in Joliet and attended the University of Illinois majoring in English and Speech.

The Tony & Obie Award winning actress has appeared in various theatrical productions on Broadway, off Broadway and regional theater such as "Godspell," "An American Daughter," "Tintypes," "Fences," "A Month of Sundays," "Working," "The Magic Show," "Jar the Floor," "Having Our Say," "Boesman and Lena," "Balm in Gilead" and "The Best Man."

Lynne’s film credits include "Streets of Fire," "Running On Empty," "Lean On Me," "The Paper" and "The Insider."

Lynne’s televison guest appearances include "The Equalizer," "Thirtysomething," "The Cosby Show" and "Promised Land." She’s had recurring roles in "Law & Order" and "L.A. Law." Lynne was a regular in such tv series as "Love, Sydney," "The District," the daytime drama "All My Children" and the PBS children’s game show "Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego?"

On March 12, 2003 Lynne passed away at the age of 54.
