Maya Rudolph was born on July 27, 1972 in Gainesville, Florida. She is the daughter of the late r&b singer Minnie Ripperton and songwriter/producer Richard Rudolph. She has a brother Mark. Minnie passed away before Maya's seventh birthday.
Maya moved with her family to Los Angeles when she was 1 year old. She attended the St. Augustine by the Sea School with actress and long time friend Gwyneth Paltrow and then went on to attend the Crossroads School, a performing arts school in Santa Monica. Maya graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a B.A. in photography in 1994.
Maya had a recurring role in the tv series "Chicago Hope" and she was a regular in the short lived tv series "City of Angels." She made her feature film debut in the movie "Gattaca" and appeared and was a music supervisor along with her father in the movie "Duets." Maya is now a cast member in the long running night time show "Saturday Night Live."
In October 2005 Maya gave birth to her first child Pearl with director Paul Thomas Anderson.
