Michael was born Michael Michele Williams in Evansville, Indiana on August 30, 1966. She was named after her motherís best friend. The eldest of 2 daughters her dad is white and her mom is black. Michael is an accomplished athlete who played competitive basketball for the top-ranked womenís high school basketball team in Indiana. After she graduated from high school she moved to New York City where she quickly got work in commercials.

In 1990 Michael made her film debut in "Def By Temptation." She later appeared in "New Jack City," "The Sixth Man" and "Ali." Her television guest appearances include "1st & Ten," "Players" and "Law & Order." Michael had a recurring role in "New York Undercover" and she was a series regular in "Dangerous Curves," "Central Park West," "Homicide: Life On The Street," "E.R." and "Kevin Hill."

Michaelís stage appearances include "A Raisin In The Sun," "Purlie Victorious" and "The Owl & The Pussycat."

Michael is an avid supporter and volunteer for Kids N Us, a New York-based organization that provides motivational speakers to inner-city children who are in need of guidance and inspiration. She has initiated Kids N Us "Round Table Chit-Chat" forum, a grassroots program that aims to work closely with children with the long-term goal of bringing national awareness to the organization. She's also active in the Harvard Mentoring Project (a nationwide program founded by the Harvard School of Public Health), volunteering to help underprivileged youth.

In December 2004 Michael gave birth to a baby boy named J. Brandon Rodriguez.
