Nia Long was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 30, 1970. She moved to Los Angeles with her mom when she was very young.

Nia has appeared in tv and film yet it was the daytime drama "The Guiding Light" that brought her to everyone's attention. She went on to star in such films as "Boyz in the Hood," "Made in America," "Love Jones" and "Soul Food."

Nia's made guest appearances in such tv shows as "ER," "Living Single," "Moesha" and "Third Watch." She had a recurring role in "Judging Amy" and she was a series regular in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" for 2 seasons and the short lived series "Live Shot." Nia eventually became a regular cast member in the NBC series "Third Watch."

Nia has a son, Massai Dorsey II, from a relationship with former boyfriend, Massai Dorsey.
