Oprah Gail Winfrey was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi on January 29, 1954. After living with her grandmother and mother she eventually went to live with her father in Tennessee. She won a scholarship to Tennessee State University and later was crowned Miss Black Tennessee. Afterwards, Oprah became the first African American female in Nashville to co-anchor the evening news.

After graduating from Tennessee State in 1976 Oprah moved to Baltimore where she became a reporter and co-anchor at WJZ-TV. A year later she began hosting the talk show "Baltimore Is Talking" with co-host Richard Sher. In 1984 Oprah moved to Chicago where she started hosting the morning talk show "A.M. Chicago." Three months later the show was renamed "Oprah Winfrey Show."

It was Oprahís talk show hosting that led to her film debut in the highly acclaimed "The Color Purple," based on the book by Alice Walker. Her performance earned her an Academy Award Best Supporting Actress nomination. Oprah would later star in "The Women Of Brewster Place," "Native Son" and "Beloved."

Oprah started her own production company, Harpo, Inc. in 1986. It was through her production company that she has produced such movies as "The Women Of Brewster Place," "The Wedding," "Beloved" and "David and Lisa."

Oprahís tv guest appearances include "Gabrielís Fire," "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air," "Ellen" and "The Hughleys."

Oprah has won numerous Daytime Emmy Awards and other recognizable awards as well. She has her own magazine called "O." In February 2003, Oprah was added to Forbes billionaire list, making her the first African American female billionaire.

Oprah has been dating businessman Stedman Graham since 1986.
