Rae Dawn Chong was born on February 28, 1961 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She is the daughter of Irish/Chinese actor/comedian Tommy Chong and African Canadian Maxine Sneed. She's also the sister of actress Robbi Chong and actor Marcus Chong.

Rae Dawn made her feature film debut in "Quest For Fire." She's also appeared in such films as "Beat Street," "American Flyers," "The Color Purple," "Soul Man," "The Principal" and "The Visit."

Rae Dawn has made guest appearances in such tv shows as "St. Elsewhere," "Judging Amy," "Melrose Place" and "Highlander." She was a series regular in "Mysterious Ways" and the Lifetime series "Wildcard."

Rae Dawn made her director/writer/producer debut with the movie "Cursed Part 3."

Rae Dawn has been married twice: to Owen Baylis, who is also the father of her son and to actor C. Thomas Howell.
