Sharon Warren is one of four daughters of an education administrator and a sheriff. She was raised in Tuskegee, Alabama.
Sharon attended North Carolina A&T from 1996 to 1997 as an accounting major and transferred to Alabama's Auburn University to major in business administration. It was there that she was encouraged to audition for the role of Beneatha in the play "Raisin In The Sun."
In August 2002, while working three jobs and getting her theater career started, Sharon auditioned for the role of Aretha Robinson, the mother of the late singer Ray Charles, in the film "Ray." The filming of "Ray" would start in March 2003. Her feature film debut as Ray’s mother would garner her rave reviews and she recently tied with actress Laura Dern for the Boston Society of Film Critics Best Supporting Actress award.
Sharon now lives in Los Angeles.
