Sydney Tamiia Poitier was born on November 15, 1973 in California. She is the daughter of Academy Award winning actor Sidney Poitier and actress Joanna Shimkus. Sydney is a graduate of New York University with a degree in acting.

She starred in the Showtime movie "Free of Eden" as well as the independent film "Park Day," which won the Audience Award at the 1998 UrbanWorld Film Festival.

Sydney has appeared in theatrical presentations of "Titus Andronicus," "Our Town" and "Hello From Birtha" at the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York City.

Sydney's tv guest appearances include "The Twilight Zone" and "Grey's Anatomy." She also had a recurring role in the CBS tv series "Joan Of Arcadia." Sydney was a series regular in the short lived tv series "First Years," the UPN tv series "Abby" and "Veronica Mars."
