Tamara Tunie was born in McKeesport, PA on March 14, 1959. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and she's appeared in numerous stage productions.

On Broadway, Tamara has shared the stage with the legendary Lena Horne in the musical, "Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music" and starred in David Merrickís revival of "Oh, Kay!" Tamara toured Europe with "Bubbliní Brown Sugar" and portrayed Helen of Troy in the New York Shakespeare Festivalís production of "Troilus and Cressida" in Central Park. She portrayed Maggie the Cat in the first all African-American production of Tennessee Williamsí "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" at Theatre Virginia, performed in the "Dreamgirls" 20th anniversary benefit concert as well as in "Tartuffe" at the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival.

On the big screen Tamara has appeared in "Wall Street," "City Hall," "The Devilís Advocate" and "The Cavemanís Valentine." She was also the narrator in "Eveís Bayou."

Tamaraís tv guest appearances include "Tribeca," "New York Undercover," "Prince Street," "Sex & The City" and "Chicago Hope." She had recurring roles in "NYPD Blue" and "24." Tamara's currently doing double duty: as medical examiner Melinda Warner, M.D. in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and the daytime drama "As The World Turns." In ATWT Tamara plays Oakdale district attorney Jessica Griffin, a role she played from 1987 to 1995, and has played on a recurring basis since 1999.

Tamara and her husband, jazz vocalist/editor Gregory Generet, reside in Harlem.
