Thandie Newton was born Thandiwe Newton on November 6, 1972 in Zambia but lived for most of her life in England. Her mom is Zimbabwean and her dad is English.

Thandie landed her first acting job in the highly acclaimed film "Flirting." After appearing in that film she continued her film career and attended Cambridge University where she received a degree in Anthropology. Her biggest film to date is the Tom Cruise movie "Mission: Impossible II." Other film roles include "The Young Americans," "Beseiged" and "Beloved."

Although she's always been known as a film star Thandie recently had a recurring role in the NBC series "ER."

Thandie is married to writer/producer Oliver Parker and they have two daughters, Ripley and Nico who was born in December 2004.
